We spoke with Vitor, who works as an Associate Director in Hedge Fund Sales at Berenberg’s London office, and asked him about his role.

What do you love about your job?
The daily involvement with markets and equities, and the relationships with incredible people both on the Corporate and Investor sides. No such thing as a dull day in this job.

What is it that you love about working for Berenberg?
The culture is unparalleled. What really stands out about Berenberg is the caliber and camaraderie of the team. People are treated like grown-ups, and Berenberg is a place where one can have freedom to operate as best suits their personal style. Clients really appreciate this ‘human element’ of the team.

How has your role at Berenberg evolved since you started here?
Since starting, the opportunity set that I have been entrusted with has been continuously growing. Berenberg is an environment that allows entrepreneurial individuals to really ‘go for it’, if they have the appetite. It has been a very rewarding, challenging at times, process, which my role has evolved with.

What skills, characteristics or behaviours do you possess that have helped you thrive in your role?
Entrepreneurial drive, a keen interest in markets and more specifically Equities, a curious nature, a genuine sense of care and responsibility for my clients and the firm.

What has been your best experience at Berenberg?
I really just enjoy the day job… working with my Team on the Hedge Fund sales desk, and the daily interactions with Research and the Traders. Our Conferences and Events are always a great time, but what I missed most in the year that I was working at a Competitor was the daily interactions with this very special team.

What surprised you the most about Berenberg once you started working here?
What surprised me most at the beginning was the strong sense of camaraderie and collective spirit within the team. Everyone was incredibly supportive and genuinely invested in each other’s success – it created a very motivating and welcoming environment right from the start.

Has Berenberg supported you in a particularly special way throughout your time here?
The responsibilities I have been given along the way. For example giving me the opportunity to look after our Middle East client base from the very start, given this is a region I am particularly close to.
