We caught up with Dennis F., Head of Payment & Administration Services, to talk about his role and his journey at Berenberg since he joined in 2017.

What do you love about your job?​​​​​​​
What I value most about my work is the close interdisciplinary collaboration and the immense diversity of topics we tackle. Within the Payment & Administration Services division, we manage national and international payment flows—with a strategic focus on cross-border transactions—and oversee the entire client administration along the customer journey. As a high-performance back-office function, we drive operational excellence in client-facing processes and act as a reliable internal service partner for both front-office and corporate divisions.
Customer value is at the heart of everything we do. We engineer bespoke solutions for global requirements, ranging from complex third-country payment streams and structured multi-currency accounts to individualized electronic banking setups. We address these sophisticated challenges through close collaboration, leveraging diverse expert perspectives to create sustainable, scalable solutions.

What is it that you love about working for Berenberg?
Working across various business areas within the bank, our flat hierarchies, and a dynamic business model that provides ongoing growth opportunities make my role both diverse and engaging. This environment demands great flexibility. How has your role at Berenberg evolved since you started here?​​​​​​​
I started in a dual role as Team Lead and Project Manager. This combination was particularly compelling as it allowed me to gain deep insights into operational business topics while giving me the autonomy to identify and implement enhancements independently—such as necessary system expansions to drive efficiency.
Over time, I have gradually taken on increasing responsibility, both in terms of subject matter expertise and leadership. Today, I head the Payment & Administration Services division, where my focus includes its strategic development and planning.

What skills, characteristics or behaviours do you possess that have helped you thrive in your role?
Curiosity and a bold mindset have helped me to proactively drive change. I generally see transformation as an opportunity; this mindset and my readiness to assume responsibility have enabled me to continually evolve in my various positions.

What surprised you the most about Berenberg once you started working here?
I vividly recall my interview at Berenberg, where the flat hierarchies and agile decision-making were emphasized.
