We spoke with Maximilian, a member of the Future Talent programme, who shared some insights with us.

What makes the Berenberg Future Talent Programme special?
The Berenberg Future Talent Programme is Berenberg’s exclusive talent retention initiative. Its main goal is to offer us Future Talents a long-term perspective at the bank and to maintain a connection beyond our internship or working student position. Through regular invitations to various events and talks, we gain exclusive insights and information about Berenberg. Thanks to dedicated and personal contacts, our individual interests, goals, and career aspirations are taken into account, and we always receive helpful support.

How did you become part of the Future Talent Programme?
After successfully completing a four-month internship in the Financial Markets division at Berenberg’s Frankfurt office, I was nominated for the Future Talent Programme. Following a brief written application in which I outlined my motivation, aspirations, and goals, I was successfully accepted into the programme in March 2024. Afterwards, I had a personal conversation about the programme as well as my individual interests and career objectives.

What personal experiences have you gained trough the programme?
Since joining the Berenberg Future Talent Programme, I’ve had the opportunity to take part in various exciting events. Two experiences that particularly stood out to me were the fascinating lecture by Berenberg’s Chief Economist, Dr. Holger Schmieding, on the economic and political outlook regarding macroeconomic topics, and the hands-on workshop on effective and targeted communication held at the Hamburg office.
These formats allowed me to broaden my personal horizons, connect with employees from different areas of the bank, and gain my first impressions of the Hamburg location.

What expectations and goals do you associate with the Future Talent Programme for your future?
By participating in the Berenberg Future Talent Programme, I hope to further advance both my professional and personal development, while also sharing my existing knowledge with like-minded individuals. A key priority for me is to deepen and expand my expertise in banking and finance.
In addition, I aim to continue actively participating in seminars and exclusive networking events in order to build valuable connections and develop a strong network of professionals within Berenberg and the broader financial industry.

I truly appreciate the targeted support the programme offers – whether through personal exchange, individual guidance, or specific development opportunities.
