Luca began his professional journey as an apprentice for IT systems integration. Now Luca is an IT Specialist in our Local Services Team in Hamburg.
What do you love about your apprenticeship?
The apprenticeship itself was very exciting. I was given the opportunity to act according to my interests and work in teams accordingly. I quickly felt at home in my current Local Service team and spent the majority of my training here. I was quickly given responsibility in Local Service and was able to specialize in a desired area of work. After completing my training, my area of specialization is now completely mine and I am doing exactly what I wanted to do.
What do you enjoy most about working at Berenberg? Why did you choose Berenberg for your apprenticeship?
In addition to the exciting tasks, what I liked most was the positive atmosphere among my colleagues. For me, it's important that you get on well with your team and enjoy coming to work. I already had this "welcome feeling" at the assessment centre, which quickly made it clear to me that I wanted to do my apprenticeship here.
What skills, characteristics, or behaviours have helped you thrive in your role?
Besides my technical understanding and skills, my open manner also helped me a lot. We are in daily contact with a wide variety of clients and have to adapt to them accordingly. As you never know what the day will bring, a certain degree of flexibility is required.
What has been your most memorable experience at Berenberg so far?
What I remember most so far are all the experiences I was able to gain in such a short time. Through my position as Branch Manager, I have been able to see many cities and countries during my time at Berenberg that I would never have seen at such a young age. I have been given the opportunity to support conferences, with the last one being in Manhattan, New York.
What surprised you the most about Berenberg once you started working here?
I was most surprised by the familiarity of the bank. It didn't take long to feel like you belong and you quickly learn that although we work in a private bank, the hierarchies are kept flat and you can talk to anyone about your concerns at any time.
How has Berenberg supported your professional or personal development?
As Berenberg is my first apprenticeship company and also my first employer, I came with little previous experience. Through my apprenticeship, I was able to learn a lot not only technically, but also personally. I can approach people much better and present and express myself in front of groups. Berenberg also gives me the opportunity to take part in further training. During my time here, I have already completed several further training courses and certificates, which have given me a good start in the IT world.
What has your onboarding experience been like?
The onboarding was well planned and there was a precise structure for the first few weeks. During this time, I was shown the basics of the company and was directly involved in active projects. We were also invited to the Frankfurt School of Finance for further training on the topic of banking/finance so that we could understand the big picture even if we weren't dealing directly with banking-specific topics.
