I knew almost nothing about Berenberg before I applied, but it was exactly what I was looking for. The programme structure allowed me to work with a wide range of different departments, including Investment Banking, Corporate Banking and Asset Management. So, as well as learning about finance, banking, and Berenberg as an organisation, I was also able to advance my interpersonal skills. The friendly and open work culture has been great for helping me figure out where my strengths are.

The thing that made me take the step and join Berenberg was how balanced the program is. I spent three months in the University acquiring theoretical knowledge, then another three months taking on a variety of assignments in different departments of the bank. My focus is on Banking Operations, so I get experience in any department related to that. It allows me to have an especially broad view of the bank, which will help me a lot in the future.

There’s a great sense of community here. All the staff and managers are all really helpful, and it’s great that there are some after work meetings und lunches where you can meet all other students and interns. The department heads put themselves on an equal footing with you, so you’re free to put your ideas forward and talk about anything that’s on your mind. Plus, the fact that we change departments so frequently helps me to develop lots of different skills and gain a better understanding of the company.
