Internship programme opportunities
We offer two different summer internship programmes in our London office: the European Equities Summer Internship Programme and the Investment Banking UK Summer Internship Programme. As an applicant, you possess the autonomy to choose the area that suits you best.

European Equities Summer Internship Programme
Based in London.
If you are a student expecting a 2:1 or above in any subject, this 10-week summer internship programme gives you the chance to gain insights into European Equities. The programme begins with an intensive induction time, where you learn the skills you will use in your role. You will then join one of our teams, supporting senior colleagues in analysing client research or sales needs. You will also enjoy the opportunity to prepare your own research and client notes and hone your presentation skills.
You will need to be in the penultimate year of your studies, and have excellent interpersonal skills, with the drive to work in a fast-paced environment. Fluency in English is essential and additional languages, especially German, are beneficial. You will need full rights to work in the UK.
We will reopen applications for the 2026 European Equities Summer Internship Programme beginning of next year.
Investment Banking UK Summer Internship Programme
Based in London.
On this 10-week internship programme, you will receive intensive training before you join our Investment Banking UK team, supporting a variety of projects. You will be actively involved in originating, structuring and carrying out Equity Capital Markets transactions, as well as analysing and screening companies and industry sectors to prepare for origination initiatives and client pitches.
You will need to be in the penultimate year of your studies and have a strong academic record from a top university. As well as having some experience of investment banking, you will need a genuine understanding and curiosity about Equity Capital Markets, with knowledge of company valuation and financial modelling. With an analytical and methodical approach, you will have the ability to thrive under pressure. You will need full rights to work in the UK.

Being an intern in Specialist Sales at Berenberg is a truly special experience. No matter how senior someone is, people are always willing to help, and the sales floor has made me feel completely at home. That openness isn’t limited to just one team; whether it's someone in equity research or investment banking, I’ve always felt comfortable approaching anyone with questions. One of the highlights has been preparing and delivering weekly stock pitches; they have boosted my confidence and developed my understanding of the many sectors the bank covers. Whether it’s through daily tasks or larger projects assigned by my team, I’ve been constantly learning. I also enjoyed attending sales briefings, as they allowed me to apply what I have learned in a real-world context. Looking back, I can honestly say I’ve gained so much. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time so far in Aerospace & Defence Equity Research, and have already developed a strong understanding of both the market, and the inner workings of equity research at a company level. Immediately after joining my team, I have been immersed in various projects. We have been lucky enough to have obtained access to Bloomberg Terminal throughout our 10 weeks with Berenberg, which has facilitated a level of company research and data analysis which I have not been exposed to before in financial services. Using resources like Bloomberg alongside access to highly experienced analysts throughout the company due to the relatively flat, non-hierarchical structure at Berenberg has provided a genuinely exceptional learning experience. It is certainly a culture that I can see myself thriving within into the future, and I would highly recommend applying.

I’ve absolutely loved my summer at Berenberg in Hedge Fund Sales. From day one, I felt like a valued member of the team, attending client meetings with hedge funds, joining sales briefings, and meeting inspiring CEOs every week. I also worked on an equities presentation for investors, helping to collate our top stock ideas across sectors. Using Bloomberg to track market-moving news and data in real time was a daily part of the job, which made the work feel fast-paced and relevant. The team has been incredibly welcoming, and it's been great to learn from such a knowledgeable group. I've been involved in various tasks, which have helped me develop new skills. I've particularly enjoyed the weekly pitches, as the team's challenging questions enable me to think critically and test my understanding of companies. I'm also working on a project to back-test some portfolio strategies, for which I have created an Excel-based model from scratch. Discussing my ideas with the team and implementing changes has been a valuable learning experience.

Do you support visas?
In general, we do not sponsor visas for internships - you will need full rights to work in the UK. Your university might support you with the visa application process though. You can check this with your university.
