Working closely with colleagues across Berenberg, our architecture teams aim to create an IT environment that supports the state-of-the-art systems required by the business needs. Our ambition is to deliver an innovatively architected IT landscape that creates maximum business value, while efficiently meeting regulatory requirements. We work hard to align the Bank's business processes, systems and technology investments with its long-term goals. At the same time, we aim to increase efficiency and agility, while reducing costs and risks.
The Cloud Adoption team are the experts on all aspects of cloud computing and governance for the business. As well as selecting a cloud service provider and managing the Bank’s cloud architecture, we also manage the data centre for purpose-built applications. These are delivered to both internal and external customers and run on state-of-the-art, highly available environments. We’re committed to a modern, co-operative, and collaborative approach to software development and operations. Using the latest tools, an agile way of working and a responsible approach, we focus on understanding and planning to move forward.
In the Cyber team, we have one goal – to protect the bank and its customers' investments. This means that security is our number one priority and we work with the other lines of defence through a mix of support and specification to make the bank operationally more secure. We use a combination of our own scanning solutions and a ready workbench of the latest professional tools from the cloud and on-premise. With an agile way of working, we take a robust approach to a range of challenges, to ensure the bank’s operations are secure.
Our operations teams cover a wide range of technologies. From two main data centres with over 3000 servers and our networks, to all hardware including laptops, mobiles, and tablets. We work closely with business users, supporting all their technical needs, and ensuring they have access to the technology they need, when they need it. Our cloud adoption approach also helps application developers move their workloads to the cloud.

Process and Governance
Our main objective is to strengthen Berenberg's organisational resilience by establishing and maintaining robust yet flexible governance standards. This involves managing a number of bank-wide cross-functional areas, such as business continuity management, identity and access governance, and process management. Based on our deep understanding of the bank's business needs, we aim to integrate governance tasks seamlessly into day-to-day activities. We are therefore creating a core organisational framework for IT, based on a constraining regulatory environment, that still allows our colleagues to work as effectively and efficiently as possible.
We develop much of our software in-house, giving us the flexibility to create solutions specifically tailored to our business needs. With access to modern technologies such as the cloud and the implementation of agile methodologies, we enable the business to adapt quickly to market trends. We also use a variety of collaboration tools to enable developers to deliver high quality solutions to complex business needs from any location. Our software development teams have the freedom to tailor their approach to meet the specific needs of their business area, from design and architecture to business delivery. With a strong focus on cloud architectures using microservices, cloud computing, late web, messaging, database, and backend technologies, we can implement a wide range of applications, such as blockchain and low-touch trading.

I enjoy the people who work here and the collaborative working environment. Team sizes are small. So things can be done quickly without the usual bureaucracy you get in larger organisations, which reflects the Agile approach used by most teams. New ideas and technologies can be tried and tested quickly. As well as the technical side to my job, I am also involved in the Global Technology Graduate Programme, and our ‘Berenberg Kids’ fundraising activities, which provide a nice balance to my main role.01/03

From working on well-established projects for the existing bank’s clients, to brand new projects that may have not even gone live yet. What keeps me motivated is the huge number of new things I need to learn daily and the incredible support from senior colleagues I receive. This role has been the highlight of my career so far.03/03
