Business Analysis

You are the link between the business departments and IT. It is your job to understand banking needs and translate them into IT requirements. You will learn how to coordinate stakeholders, write user stories and bring an idea to a go live ready software.

Operations Engineering

You will learn how to build and run system architectures on premise in our own data centres or in the cloud. You will support our infrastructure platform and network teams and gain experience in running and scaling high available systems.

The format of the programme

Two-week induction

Your programme starts with a two-week induction that introduces you to the business and our unique technical needs. It’s a great opportunity to learn about what each of the different divisions do and what that means for technology at the bank. It’s also a chance to network with other technology graduates and hear from senior business leaders across the business, including our Head of Global Technology.

As well as introducing you to the business, you’ll also attend a range of IT workshops on a range of topics. These will give you insights into everything from Python and Java programming, to machine learning, full stack development and project management.

Two-week induction

Your rotations

Over 18 months, you’ll experience a series of 12-week rotations. As part of the Orientation Phase, you will work on specific projects in different Global Tech teams. You will try out different roles, from tech consultant and software developer to business analyst.

You’ll also take part in an Innovation Phase – a high level project, working in agile teams with other graduates to develop new software, infrastructure, or technologies to answer a major future business challenge. After the Innovation Phase you will enter the Specialisation Phase which is a 6-month training phase in your chosen area of specialisation, allowing you to identify the team that you would like to join permanently.

The programme’s a great springboard for your technical career in the bank. With support from managers, colleagues, and the early careers team, you can identify where in the business you want to build your career. And we’ll aim to arrange your last rotation in your chosen team.

Your rotations

Professional development

Because we use a variety of different programming languages across the business, each rotation may involve coding in a new language. We’ll give you all the support you need to develop the technical skills required for each project. As well as access to an online coding academy, you’ll be surrounded by experienced people who are always happy to help you out.

So, throughout your programme and beyond, you’ll have extensive development support from managers, colleagues and the Human Resources team.

Meet one of our early careers talents

Odelia S.
Global Technology Graduate

Berenberg is always thought of as a traditional bank, but I was surprised by how fast-changing it is too. The rotational opportunities I’ve had here have given me a good understanding of the standard of work required to progress in the business. Not to mention the knowledge of technology and investment banking I’ve gained, or the overall understanding of how one affects the other. It has helped me develop new skills I can apply anywhere.

Joining Berenberg was a great opportunity as a developer. You get to join a relatively small team and start making meaningful contributions from day one. The company is actively modernising all of the technology it’s using, and follows the latest trends in both development and agile methodologies. Plus, Berenberg develops a lot of software for itself and doesn’t outsource to third parties, so I definitely feel like my role has more of a purpose.

Tobi O.
Global Technology Graduate

I’m currently on the Global Technology graduate programme, and so far, what I’ve enjoyed most is working with various stakeholders from different levels throughout the company. Everyone is happy to provide you with help and support when you need it. Questions are always welcome, so I’ve learned a lot about the industry. If you’re looking for somewhere you can learn new skills and actually put them into action, this is the place for you.
