IT apprenticeship: many paths, one career
Our IT programmes offer school leavers excellent opportunities to start their IT career. Regardless of whether you choose the normal apprenticeship programme or the study-integrated option, you will gain practical IT skills and in-depth specialist knowledge during the programme.
As part of the three-year apprenticeship programme, you will either specialise in system integration or application development. You will experience different rotations across our Global Technology teams, while gaining valuable theoretical knowledge at vocational school. Alternatively, we offer the four-year integrated study programme, in which you complete a degree in Computer Science at the Beruflichen Hochschule Hamburg (BHH) and at the same time undergo the IT apprenticeship. This unique combination of theoretical and practical experience prepares you ideally for challenging tasks in the IT world.

Application Development and System Integration
Based in Hamburg.
At Berenberg, we offer two first-class apprenticeship programmes in the IT sector that give you the chance to successfully launch your career in the digital world. Application development and system integration are key areas of IT that focus on different aspects. Application developers create and maintain user-friendly software solutions that support business processes. System integrators ensure that different IT systems and platforms work together seamlessly by integrating software and hardware and optimising communication between systems. Both areas are essential to secure and promote a company's digital infrastructure.
Our IT apprenticeship allows you to rotate through cross-functional teams in an agile working environment and gain comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge. The team assignments alternate with lessons at the vocational school so that you have in-depth knowledge and practical skills on completion of your training. Our aim is to offer you a permanent position at the bank after your training and to provide you with long-term opportunities to develop your professional and social skills.
Integrated study programme at the BHH - Computer Science
Based in Hamburg.
Our integrated study programme offers you the unique opportunity to obtain two qualifications within four years: a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a recognised qualification as an IT specialist. This dual qualification combines in-depth specialised knowledge with valuable practical experience and prepares you well for demanding tasks in the IT. Due to an excellent combination of studies, vocational school and practical experience in our IT, you can apply and deepen your knowledge directly.
You will work on exciting projects right from the start, gain extensive practical experience and actively contribute to the development of innovative solutions. At the same time, you will benefit from an attractive salary and an environment that promotes your professional and personal development. What we look for
If you are finishing school and want to gain practical IT experience, our IT programmes gives you an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in a paid job. You will need to be able to show us that you have a genuine interest in, and enthusiasm for IT.
You may have developed your own web pages, done some programming or built your own laptop in your spare time. As well as a good technical understanding, you will also need the ability to deal with a variety of different people at all levels in our business. Ideally, you will also have a knowledge of English, although we will offer you English lessons.

Now I rotate through the various teams and find it really exciting to see how different the departments are. This gives you a good overview and you quickly realize what suits you—and what perhaps suits you less. I particularly like the fact that you are taken seriously, can ask questions at any time, and that your colleagues are very helpful. You don't feel like “just a trainee,” but really part of the team. This appreciation is not a given – and that's exactly what makes the difference for me.
